Geforce GTX 580: Nvidia launches new high-end GPU with DX11 before
Nvidia has its second generation of graphics processors with DirectX 11 support announced. The new Geforce GTX 580 still based on the FermiArchitecture with 40 nm feature size, but were GPU optimized transistor-level power consumption and cooler than the previous top model GTX 480th Thus they offer compared to 30 percent more performance or 35 percent more performance per watt.
The new GPU, codenamed GF110 has 512 processor cores and 64 texture units. By comparison, the GTX 480 GF100 with their chip has only 480 so-called CUDA cores and 60 texture units. Amount of memory and connectivity remain with 1536 MB (GDDR5) and 384-bit, however the same.

The GeForce GTX 580 uses the optimized Fermi graphics core GF110 .
But Nvidia has increased the clock speeds than its predecessor: The graphics core is clocked at 772 instead of 700 MHz, the memory to 2004 instead of 1848 MHz. The shader units running at 1544 instead of 1401 MHz. This results in a higher texture fill rate resulting from 49.4 billion pixels per second (instead of 42 billion) and a higher memory bandwidth of 192.4 GB / s (instead of 177.4 GB / s). Bottom line, the GTX 580 is likely to be the fastest DX11 card for games on the market.
Despite higher power Nvidia has been able to reduce power consumption compared to the GTX 480 easily. The maximum power of 244 watts, the manufacturer is TDP at (GTX 480: 250 watts). In idle mode, the new releases is content with about 31 watts, which is even lower than the 35 watts of the GTX 470 (GTX 480: 50 watts).
With a new cooling system with vaporization chamber and dynamically adjusting fan to the GTX 580 be significantly quieter than their predecessors. The 26.7 times 11.1 cm big map but still takes two slots.
On the other equipment, not much has changed. Except DirectX11 OpenGL still 4.1, OpenCL 1.0, CUDA, PhysX, PureVideo HD, 3D vision, 3-Way SLI and VGA ports, DVI and HDMI support.
First card with the new Nvidia chip will be available including Asus, EVGA, Gainward, Gigabyte, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, PNY, Sparkle and XFX soon. The suggested retail price is 479 euros, 100 euros above the street price of the GTX 480th
AMD was first in its second generation of DirectX 11 GPUs already presented two weeks ago. The Radeon models HD 6870 and HD 6850 with Bart's core are not in the high-end segment located, but will compete with Nvidia's midrange GeForce GTX chip 460th AMD is expected in the coming weeks with the Radeon HD 6950 and HD GPUs 6970 (Cayman core) but an attack on the GeForce GTX 580th
